What type of skates are the best for a 3-year-old to learn on?

I bought those double-blades that strap on to the child’s boots, but they don’t look like they can ever be strapped on properly. More like she would be harmed than helped on them.

Any suggestions? What are your kids learning on? Should I find some small single-blade skates and get her right on those?

I suggest you buy whatever your rink’s pro shop has in stock for beginner skates in your child’s size. They will be just fine for a 3-year old, and will be flexible enough for a beginner.

The clerk at the pro shop will know how to fit the skates and what brand will work. But there is usually just one or two brands for that small of a size and are affordable too.

No need to worry about brand name skates just yet.

Have fun skating!

*edit* Buy what’s at the pro shop meaning in single bladed beginner skates. I’ve never seen the double bladed ones in a pro shop yet. Those are silly.

the brand GAM. I had that brand when i was six. They are good beginer skates, and they aren’t to expensive. Also if the rink you are at has a pro shop ask people there they will know what skates too.

A 3 year old doesn’t need toddler skates. I would get her some proper single-bladed ones. Maybe ask around at the rink and see if you can find some secondhand – kids grow out of them so quickly.

Both my kids started with "real" skates at 3. Still going at 10 and 13.

when i learnt i was 5 and my first pair were those skates that were all plastic, a clicky clasp, and no pick.
    kinda like these ones: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/416YHw94-yL._AA260_.jpg
they’re pretty cheap (if i remember correctly) so it won’t be costly when they’re outgrown.the’re also pretty easy to put on and should’ve been pretty comfy (it was too long ago lol)
see if your child can sorta get the hang of single blade ones or else there’s also double blade skates that come with the boot
