Just because Hitler …
Just because Hitler likes it, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy how melodic it is.

This is “Rienzi: …
This is “Rienzi: Overture” from Richard Wagner and, sadly, one of the hitlers favourite piece…

i don’t understand …
i don’t understand why chaplin got in trouble for this. this movie was hilarious and he was just trying to brighten up some dark times and subjects.

This man was more artist than actor!

yeah I know, but …
yeah I know, but I’m saying when Hitler started to openly disregard the treaty Europe should have been just a bit more concerned

Chaplin was so much …
Chaplin was so much more than just an actor. He was brilliant with whatever he did. He wrote scripts, he filmed, choreographed. made music, acted
- and he did all that exceptionally well. Honestly, I dont think words are enough for Charlie Chaplin.

Treaty of …
Treaty of Versailles? That was the cause of Hitler’s rise, not a reason to oppose him.

any one could have …
any one could have seen what he was doing. he wrote a book while he was in jail.

@Zemo
I did not …
@Zemo
I did not intend to say that people should have recognized Hitler was a maniac &opposed him because of that but rather when he started taking over other countries, someone should have stood up to him. They also should have opposed him because of his consolidation of power, the flouting of the Treaty of Versailles, &his treatment of the Jews. Even before the death camps, Hitler treated the Jews like animals, publicly, used govt. owned press to belittle &mock the Jews, &he stole their $

Firstly, I want to …
Firstly, I want to say that this is a forum for discussing a great work of cinematic art, not the benefits or disadvantages of socialism. That said, socialism is an awful way to run a country.
It is not necessary, needed, nor wanted by many, including most Americans. Margaret Thatcher summed it up best when she said: “The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

So were the …
So were the Rokafellers who were caught laundering Nazi money in the U.S

He was a socialist …
He was a socialist because his economic policy relied heavily on government intervention. Government directed business operations, most notably military spending and R & D. He was Fascist because Germany became a single-party country with no elections. Just because Hitler was a blight on humanity doesn’t mean didn’t use effective economic policy. Politics and economics are two different things… (Though rarely mutually exclusive). See he was a facist and a socialist, related but seperate.
September 5th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Umm, why would they …
Umm, why would they oppose him for being a socialist? Socialism is a powerful and necessary form of government, one of the most successful even today. Or oppose him for being a maniac? He was more a psychopath/sociopath, who are very good at hiding their true intentions until they have the power necessary to do what they wish. Few people saw this coming who spoke to Hitler directly, in fact, many were chastised because they reported Hitler to be a good man with virtuous intentions… Whoops.

before he was a …
before he was a facist, he was a socialist. Nazi is the German pronunciation of an acronym that stood for National Socialist Party, and Hitler solved the depression in Germany by giving everyine a job in the military industrial complex, i.e. everyone who wanted work could have it and most of the jobs were working towards rearming Germany for the next war. Hitler funded his socialism (remember the Maggie Thatcher quote) by using money he stole from the Jews

how was hitler a …
how was hitler a socialist?
September 5th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
that’s true, but …
that’s true, but even without knowing about the death camps, they should’ve opposed him simply because he was A: a socialist and B: a maniac bent on World Domination
Winston Churchill predicted the future 2/3 of the time, he predicted the fate of eastern Europe after being “liberated” by the communists and he correctly opposed Hitler, but he missed India’s Independence
September 5th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
fact is many people …
fact is many people in the USA considered this film jew propaganda, since some sources believe Chaplin had jew ancestry
before the concentration camps, many people in the west liked Hitler for taking a firm stand against those “greedy jews”, Henry Ford among others openly liked him
September 5th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
he was trying to …
he was trying to warn us all of the approaching storm, and we didn’t listen.
I bet if we had a similar situation today a film like this couldn’t be made because it wouldn’t be “politically correct”
let’s forget the fact that the term “poltically correct” originated in Stalinist Russia
