Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Can anyone tell me a local skate board shop near South San Francisco CA or El Camino? Not like zumiez of anything. I am a beginner skater and I am planning to get a board. Should I get a birdhouse or an element? Getting a complete board would be cool too.

FTC on Haight street is where you want to go

i live in Sacramento and we have an FTC shop here, they only have 3 shops world wide, SF, Sac, and one in Tokyo.

but they are a very good shop.

the brands they have are mainly Girl, Chocolate, and DGK, with some other brands. which in my opinion are the best brands.

own a skate shop and want to get skate clothing, where do I start?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I want to sell volcom, matix, directly from the companies not a wholesaler. where do i start? i can’t find anything on the companies websites.

It depends on the brand. Some times the brands produce for a distributor that produces and distributes to the wholesalers. Find out who the brands are working with.

I have a client I had done work for that is a clothing designer. His business designs the clothes and then has another company produce the clothes that were designed.

I can’t really help you find out who these companies are but I do know that some of the producers don’t work with small retail shops directly and will refer you to a wholesale distributor. This is usually due to contract reasons.

What happens and benefits i get after you get sponsored by a local surf or skate shop?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

I really want to get sponsored by a surf shop near my house, its not a big shop and not many people out of the town but i could easily get sponsored for skimboarding and I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT BENEFITS I GET FOR SPONSORSHIP

The benefits of shop sponsorship are different from shop to shop.

Generally, you would get a discount on products.
Free shop stickers, and a t-shirt and maybe some other shop merchandise.
Some consumable items would be free like wax, hardware, etc.
Paid entrance into competitions.

You are representing the local shop, so you will be required to wear their logos at specific times (you also can’t wear competitors products), and be required to attend demos and comps.

How to advirtise my online skate shop?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

I own an online skate shop but things be a little slow. I’m going to put flyers up in my town but what else can i do
www.boardpusher.com/freedom

Posters are a good idea, but flyers aren’t. I would try to get involved in local events, or put on one yourself. Getting involved in the community pays back in the long run and when you’re involved in such events, the local paper may take and print your picture! That kind of advertising is priceless. (Of course, you and everyone in the picture are wearing something with the name of your shop, or the banner in the background, etc…) This type of "advertising" still costs, but mostly YOU are investing time and sometimes product.

I suggest trying to meet with other local businesses and find out what works for them or check with your suppliers/reps on what works for similar size stores in other towns.

One more thing: ask your main suppliers if they can contribute ideas, product and even cash. Yes, cash. Co-op advertising is where your supplier pays a good chunk of a print ad. You MUST follow the rules of the companies co-op policies and usually get approval from them before the ad appears. Good luck.

will a skate shop put grip tape on a long board?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I just bought this long board cruiser, you know like a sector nine, and i like it i just hate the grip tape…i mean theres nothing wrong with its function i just dont like how it looks, its sortof gay…i just wanted to know if a skate shop will replace the grip with some plain black grip or if they only do that with regular skate boards…help me out?

If you pay for the grip tape I don’t know why they shouldn’t.
