How can I make The Globe Theatre model or blueprint?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

For my class project, I need to make a model of the Globe Theatre. They don’t have a limit on the size, however, I want it to be no bigger than a laptop. It says I need to label the various parts of the model or blueprint. I would prefer doing the model because I basically like doing models. What kind of materials do you think I should use?

Where can I find a inflatable globe in Rhode Island?

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Hi there,

I have a presentation coming up on Monday and I need to get an inflatable globe for it. I meant to order on online but this week has been so hectic I forgot. Can anyone point me to a store that would sell inflatable globes in Rhode Island or the surrounding area? Thanks!

How does water evaporate from a sealed snow globe?

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Many years ago, someone gave me a Precious Moments snow globe with a little figurine inside. The water used to be up to the top, now it’s about a quarter of the way down. It’s sealed and does not leak. How in the world did the water evaporate through the plastic??

Through humidity changes inside the globe.

Why buy an aqua globe when you can just use a turkey baster upside down?

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I have been doing this for weeks and it’s been working fine! Why waste twenty bucks on an aqua globe when you can just go to the dollar store and buy twenty basters? It loads easier and it’s cheaper. Does anyone else think this is a good idea, my plants are going great with my turkey baster! I am going to decorate one for my Grandma, I know she will love it better than some hard to fill globe.

Well the aqua globes are so expensive because their blown glass and made to be decorative. Good to know there is an alternative- I might try that idea.

What types of ordiments, figurines, or material can I use inside a homemade snow globe?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I plan on making a homemade snow globe as an arts and craft project, and I’ve read that I want ornaments–Christmas ones–to put inside, but I don’t know if the paint can sustain itself in the liquid for very long. Does anyone on Yahoo! answers know what I can use? I’d much rather make my own figurine, but if not, does anyone else know where I can buy unique ones other than them being Christmas related?

You might want to read several of the categories on this page at my site about making your own snowglobes:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/outdoor_snowglobes_fountains.htm (first half of the page)

My whole site is primarily about using polymer clay (and this page about using polymer clay inside snowglobes, etc.) but that page will also cover other things too.

As for "ornaments" to put inside the snowglobes, I assume you mean little figures and items, not fabric or glass ball ornaments, etc. Most of those little figures & items will be fine but some of the paints or regular glitters, etc, could bleed over time, and some metals could rust… and anything you use will need to be waterproof (glass, metal, plastic).

Why do you find Freemasons all across the globe?

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Why do you find Freemasons all across the globe?and why is Freemasonry the largest fraternity on earth?

Freemasonry is largely spiritual. This broad spirituality embraces all of the world’s major religions and requires that Freemasons extend the hand of friendship and fellowship to all who knock upon its doors. This includes skeptics and non- believers. Once Freemasonry is truly understood, many of those who were previously skeptical, have joined our fraternity and found the brotherly camaraderie that they had been seeking, but weren’t aware existed.

Where can we get a snow globe repaired that has murky coloured water?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I have a snow globe that froze and needs to be repaired because the water turned a yellowish colour, and I need to get it fixed. I looked, but couldn’t find anyplace local that would fix them. I ask because I could send it out and get it fixed, but it would be after Christmas that it came back. I live in Anchorage, Alaska.

Is there a plug on the bottom to drain? I’m pretty sure the solution is glycerin and water. I don’t know how they repair these, but I made one once, and that’s what I used. If there’s no drain plug on the bottom, I imagine you would have to melt a hole, and after it was refilled have a new plastic piece to glue over the hole. It’s going to be that hard, and that easy. I’m thinking a plug like maybe salt shakers have on the bottom.

Any ideas on making a world globe on a pumpkin?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

My son has two weeks to make a globe on a pumpkin, any way he wants. Any ideas to help it stand out, or where I can get something to trace everything on the pumpkin? He also has to label everything.

it is not clear whether he has to cut out the maps/continents from the pumpkin or merely draw over it. so here are some general ideas that you can customize/adapt .

– first, trace out the continents from any atlas [make sure of the proportions]
– then trace these on the pumpkin in respective positions.
– these can then be cut out [leaving enough attachments between them to make it all stay.
-- you can write/type the names of the continents on pieces of construction paper, in the form of labels. attach a string to each & thread them at the top of each continent. thus the labels will remain hanging freely. [you may want to type the name on both sides of label].
– for oceans, he can cut &/or etch tiny waves & add name tags too.
- add a light inside so that the cut areas can ‘beam’ out the light in the shape of each continent.
– you could glue some blue cellophane paper inside the pumpkin, under the oceans so that blue waves can be seen when lit.

hope this helps you get started
all the very best & enjoy :-)

Will snow globe collections give you profit in the future?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I have a snow globe collection (not much, just 18) but I heard from somewhere that if you have a collection and you sell it when you’re older, it’s gonna be worth more the cost when you bought them. Does that also work for snow globes? I also just started a coin and smiley things collection. Will that also work for those?

No, not really. The only reason something becomes collectible is that it’s rare, and nothing will be rare anymore because everyone is collecting everything hoping to make a profit. Collect because you love something, and then pass it on to your grandchildren. They will love it because you did.

Meanwhile, I love these Pipka snow globes.
