How to go in the upper deck of a plane for free?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I am 15 and flying from Toronto to Paris, then Sofia, with an Air France 747.

The upper deck is not first class, it’s economy. 30 hours before check in when you can pick your seats, can I pick the upper deck? Or do i have to show up early at the airport and request a seat upstairs?

Also, is there a way to get bumped to first class for free? Im 15 and flying alone.

the only way to get free upgrades is to be a frequent flyer (by flying on like 50 flights a year) if the free upgrades are not taken by the frequent flyers, they will sell them for $500 a seat.

personally, i don’t like the upper deck because it’s walls are more curved and it’s more cramped. it’s private, but too small! ask the gate agent to change your seat or do it via an airport kiosk

"Building a wooden deck" How do I attach my 2×8’s to a block wall thats poured solid?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

I am getting ready to build a wooden wraparound deck onto my house. I am framing off my already existing block foundation wall and the cells on this wall have been poured solid during construction. What type of fastener do you reccommend using to attach my framing 2×8 board to this block wall ? Also I have no axcess to the backside of the block wall.

You’ll need masonry bolts that will go into the matching-sized two-step expansion anchors which will fit into the mortar gaps in the brick.

You’ll drill holes (with a masonry bit) into the mortar where the holes line up. Drill coordinating holes in (studs/2×4s) whatever you’re using to attach the two. Ratchet down as hard as you can go.

Note:Buy a few masonry bits and keep them wet with a little water during the drilling process. You’ll go through the bits pretty quickly.

What kind of deck do i have to have to win at a friday night match?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I want to go to a tournament but i dont know what im going to be up against. I’ve been playing for a while and i have a deck that no one i know can beat. So if anyone has been to one, what kinds of things am i up against?

well, there are many new kinds of cards nowadays. you can expect lots of tribal decks like elves, merfolk, faeries, treefolk, goblins, etc. and you could still expect some of the old cards (usually combined with new ones) still being used in most tournaments depending on the tournament format. it wouldn’t be bad if you used a tribal deck yourself seeing as there are many combos and strong cards for tribal decks. its just a matter of choosing the right cards for your deck and sideboard to give you an edge in a match. so choose and think wisely out there! =)

How can I build a temporary deck out of pallets?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I want to make a small deck to use beside my 52" above-ground seasonal pool, on the cheap. I just had the idea to stack free pallets, nail them together to the proper height, and put decking across the top of it (and add stairs). Any reason this won’t work? Pallets are built to hold weight, aren’t they? Any other great ideas to contribute?

Pallets are built from the cheapest wood available including stuff that has a lot of splinters and maybe protruding nail heads or twisted staples. People who make stuff from recycled pallets put a lot of effort into pulling all the nails and probably running the pieces of wood through a jointer/planer to get them smooth.

If you use the pallets make sure any surfaces that you might come in contact with are free from anything that could be dangerous to touch. You might be able to face the edges that show on the sides with 3/16" external plywood for smoothness.

What are some attractive colors? The deck is rather large? my yard is a beautiful golf green color and my house is tan siding with redish orange brick front? its on the corner so it has to be 1attractive because it is seen by every one?

First go to your local home improvement center and purchase the following, considering the deck is not new.

If the deck is new skip the following cleaning process.

1ea can of DECK KLEEN or equal deck cleaner

Sealing and staining:

5+- Gallons of Thompsons, Behr, or equal high quality deck
sealer
1+- Quarts of quality stain per your taste, to match or contrast
with your existing color scheme.

Application:

Mix deck cleaner per mfgrs. instructions, and spray it on deck, in all openings and cracks with sprayer, and brush all surfaces with the push broom. Follow Mfgs. instructions for rinsing and drying times.

Mix stain and deck sealer per Mfg. instructions and drying requierments. Set aside at least one gallon of this mixture for future touch up application.
