My husband and I just bought a house, and the previous owner had sealed the deck, but some of the stain spattered on the siding. Is there a way to remove it after it’s been dried on for a long period of time?

Depends upon the type of stain.

If it is a latex stain, Oops multipurpose remover may do the trick. Be careful with it, the chemicals will soften the siding. Try not to leave it in contact with the siding any longer than needed. You can find Oops in most paint deparments.

If it is an oil stain, things are a bit more difficult. Chemicals that will cut the stain will also soften the siding very quickly. Mineral spirits is about as strong as you can go, may work or may not depending upon the stain.

With either of these options, test in an area that is not visible first to make sure your siding will survive. Vinyls are different, what works fine on one brand may eat a hole in another.

Also, if there are large blobs of stain, you should use a razor blade to shave off as much as you can before you start with the solvents.

If neither of these work, you can use Softscrub or similar to clean. It will remove the stain with some work. It will make a spot on the siding, as it will actually remove a bit of the siding surface. How noticeable this is will depend upon the color of the siding and how faded it is.

I was wondering how you install an aftermarket deck in a car that has 6 factory speakers when the wiring harness you purchase will only allow for front and rear speakers? I’ve installed every deck before in other cars, but for the one i’d like to get, it seems to have 6 factory and not 4, so I wasn’t sure the best way to do this. I’m assuming you have to get a small amp to do this, but wouldn’t the wattage be off if you ran it like that?

Thanks!

Just about all factory radios have four channels of outputs, just like an after-market head unit. They work with 6-speaker systems in one of two ways:

1. Two of the speakers are tweeters, run in parallel with the main front speakers and using passive crossovers.

2. The factory system uses a separate amplifier to run some or all of the speakers.

In the first case, you don’t have to do anything special; all six speakers will work with the after-market head unit just like they did with the factory head unit. In the second case, you may have to use a premium sound adapter to make the factory amplifier work with the after-market deck.

We live in Staten Island , NY. Interested in having a deck added to our home. We were just curious the process before having the deck built or possibly even building it ourselves. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There are several things to consider before you build, or have someone else build, your deck. They include local planning and zoning regulations as well as applicable building codes. If you are going to build the deck yourself, you need to honestly assess your construction knowledge and skills before you tackle the project. If you decide to hire a contractor to build the deck, you need to understand how to pick a qualified contractor.

Since an outdoor deck is a structural element of your house, it is essential that you get a building permit and go through the inspection process as the deck is built. A building permit application brings together both planning and zoning regulations in the form of a site plan, and building codes in the form of a set of building plans and specifications. The place to start your research is your local building inspector’s office.

Your county or city building inspector can provide you with applicable planning and zoning regulations for your area. These regulations include such things as setbacks from property lines and generally govern the placement of your proposed deck. One work of warning involves subdivision regulations that do not appear in planning and zoning ordinances. Many subdivision developers limit what may be constructed in their subdivisions by including subdivision regulations in their deed restrictions.

Take a look at your deed and look for a phrase like, "subject to restructions of record". If there are restrictions, the builder/developer has registered them at the county courthouse, which is where you can obtain a copy. These restrictions are generally designed to protect the property values and/or look of the area. They can be fairly simple or very extreme. Fencing, detached garages, storage sheds, RV and/or boat storage, and landscaping are the most common items that are regulated. Specific regulations regarding decks and room additions are also fairly common.

Once you understand the rules, you can begin designing your deck. Structurally, your deck must meet applicable building codes. The codes will specify things like depth of concrete footings, support post size, floor joist size based on span, railing height, baluster placement, stair rise and run, as well as many other items. All of these elements will be included in the set of plans that you submit with your building permit application. The building inspector will not issue a building permit unless the plans and specifications meet the minimal building code standards.

Assuming that you have your budget issues under control, most of your preliminary homework is done. The next decision is whether or not to build it yourself. If you think you have the physical skills, knowledge, tools, friends to help, and the time; there is no reason not to do it yourself. If you don’t think you can handle it, it is time to shop for a contractor.

It is advisable to get bids from no more than three qualified contractors. Any more, and things start to get confusing. Get recommendations from friends and neighbors or your local old time lumberyard. Screen the contractors by making sure that they have been in business at least ten years, have references you can (and you must actually do so) check, be licensed if required by law, and be covered by Worker’s Compenstaion and general liability insurance. Make sure that each contractor is bidding on exactly the same set of plans and specifications so you can get an honest price comparison. A 10% downpayment is acceptable, any more indicates that the contractor has no, or little, working capital and is not financially stable. Most decks are built in a couple of days, so there is no need for incremental payments as the deck is built. A contractor who "needs money to buy materials" is not financially stable. Do not pay the final amount due until all of the work has been completed to your satisfaction. Once they are paid in full, you have no leverage in getting them back to finish or take care of problems.

That’s about it for "deck building 101".

Good luck with your deck building project.

General info about Extended: Extended is dominated by only a few decks: Mind’s Desire, Psychatog, Ichorid/Dredge, and Boros Deck Wins. Here are the decklists for the top Extended deck from Worlds http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/worlds06/textdecks. Boros Deck Wins seems to have dominated the Extended champs this year.

I got a deck of 40 cards in playing sleeves. What’s the best way to package a deck, so it can arrive safely to the buyer?

I’ve not sent any trading cards through the mail, but I buy and sell playing cards all the time. Putting cads into individual sleeves will be helpful. Next if you could put the entire group into one or two card boxes it would help them from sliding around while in shipping. (If you can’t get card boxes, put them in a large or legal size envelope. Fold the sides over as tight as possible and tape to prevent from coming loose.) Ship in one of the bubble-pak envelopes available at the Post Office.

Try an Exodia deck, there are cards out there that can make you draw your whole deck in one turn, such as Heart of The Underdog, Sangan helps, and many other cards, I suggest 40 cards so u can draw Exodia quicker.. Obtaining cards that bolsters your chances of drawing Exodia quicker really helps, and you also got to use it in timely situations and learn to use them right… That’s what it all comes down to, But I suggest building an Exodia Deck..

I am building a deck along one side of my circular, above ground pool. In order to change the liner if needed, the caps on the rim would need to be removed. This leads me to think the deck should be built so it butts up against the side of the rim. But, the problem with that is, the rim is really rounded on top and I wouldn’t have flush, level access into my pool. And Im worried about my kids standing on the rim of the pool when jumping in. How should the deck be built with these circumstances?

build the deck so it comes just below the caps like in this site
