In the FreeWheelin’ Skate Shop exactly 1/4 of the skateboards are red and exactly 2/3 of the scooteres are red?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

If there is an equal number of red skateboards and red scooters in the shop, what fraction of the total skateboards and scooters together are red? Express your answer as a common fraction.
SHOW WORK

1/4+2/3

1/4 multiply numerator and denominator by 3 and get "3/12"
2/3 multiply numerator and denominator by 4 and get "8/12"

add 3/12 and 8/12 and get "11/12"

your answer is 11/12… yes this is a common fraction!!

What is the heaviest element that the sun can fuse?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Also, what is the heaviest element any star can fuse? What happens to a star after that?

The heaviest element that our Sun produces is probably silicon; the core temperature and pressure would need to be MUCH higher to produce heavier elements. The heaviest element that can be produced in ANY star is iron.

The reason for this is something called the "packing fraction curve". As light elements are fused into heavier elements, they release energy; this is how the Sun and other stars work, by fusing hydrogen into helium. Toward the end of a star’s life, the temperature and pressure increase enough to fuse helium into carbon, and then carbon into heavier elements, but each stage releases less and less energy. Finally, when elements fuse into iron, you can get no more energy out. To fuse iron into heavier things, or anything into elements heavier than iron, you must put energy IN. When a star begins fusing iron into heavy elements, it suddenly stops producing energy to support the star against the tremendous gravity, but instead starts sucking energy OUT of the core of the star to power fusion!

This loss of energy from the core of the star causes a sudden and catastrophic implosion as the core of the star collapses the core into a black hole or neutron star, and the outer layers of the star are compressed and expelled in a shock wave that creates gigatons of heavy elements and throws the remainder of the star’s mass into space; a supernova explosion.

So, nothing heavier than iron can be produced in a normal star; heavier elements are only created in supernovas.

Is there tricks to making a disability claim get approval faster through Social Security?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I have been told that there are tricks and information that Social Security doesn’t offer you that could speed your process up to start receiving benefits faster. Where can I go and learn all I need to learn about what to know about social security benefits and special circumstances .

Almost nobody is approved "instantly" as previously mentioned. My aunt had terminal brain cancer with 6 weeks to live and she was denied. My uncle had terminal non-hodgkins lymphoma with a team of doctors (including a doctor that worked with disability determination services) writing letters, faxing, calling to say that he was disabled and he was denied.

Your best bet is the get an attorney right off the bat.

What wouldn’t you expect to find in a snow globe?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I’m trying to get a painting done but I’m trying to find something that you would never expect to find in a snow globe. I’m thinking of using a picture of someone while they’re sleeping to go inside of the snow globe. Like a living snow globe or a small world within the snow globe. Any thoughts on the idea or maybe can anyone suggest any more ideas?

How about a little tropical island with sand and palm trees.

I need a name for a skateboard shop, anyone?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I need a good name for my skateboard shop

when I used to skate, me and my friend always dreamed of naming a skate shop "out to launch" like a launch ramp? This was about 1989 and I don’t know if kids even use launch ramps anymore.

How to install a deck with 6 factory speakers?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I was wondering how you install an aftermarket deck in a car that has 6 factory speakers when the wiring harness you purchase will only allow for front and rear speakers? I’ve installed every deck before in other cars, but for the one i’d like to get, it seems to have 6 factory and not 4, so I wasn’t sure the best way to do this. I’m assuming you have to get a small amp to do this, but wouldn’t the wattage be off if you ran it like that?

Thanks!

Just about all factory radios have four channels of outputs, just like an after-market head unit. They work with 6-speaker systems in one of two ways:

1. Two of the speakers are tweeters, run in parallel with the main front speakers and using passive crossovers.

2. The factory system uses a separate amplifier to run some or all of the speakers.

In the first case, you don’t have to do anything special; all six speakers will work with the after-market head unit just like they did with the factory head unit. In the second case, you may have to use a premium sound adapter to make the factory amplifier work with the after-market deck.

what are the advantages of using a map and what are the advantages of using a globe?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

i have an exam on geography tomorrow, and i know this question is going to be on there, also what is geography? i find these two questions hardest to explain please help? oh and for that advantages question its like a map shows more specific details, and a globe allows you to view the whole world, yes details like that. please help. Thanks!

a map is always distorted because it’s impossible to portray a 3-dimensional sphere onto a 2 dimensional map, without distortions. Therefore, with accuracy, a globe is better.

A map is more handy because it can be laid on a desk and studied much easier. It’s also more portable and can be easily stored and folded, etc.

A map can be scaled so you can see as much detail as you want. You can fit the entire world on a map, or you can change the scale and show only a city, and depict every single street.

You can’t scale a globe very easily. If you made a globe big enough to see every street, the globe would be HUGE
